Mauritius, is in the South of Indian Ocean. So when traveling in a Ship it will take around 9 days from Asia, or 5- 6 days from East Africa. However there is a huge problem –There are many Cargo ships that ply the Indian Ocean regularly but only few take passengers.
But then there is the other side too. You will have to find a passage on private yacht(s) that call in at Mauritius outside of cyclone season, berthing at Grand Baie or Port Louis. Of course even these opportunities are rare.
And then the only guaranteed way to work your way to Mauritius by sea is MV Mauritius Pride, which cruises several times a month between Mauritius and Réunion Islands. Of course there are other ships that shuttle between Reunion Islands and Rodrigues Islands. And then there are cruise liners that periodically drops anchor in Port Louis.
Mauritius is a wonderful place, and yet reaching it by water makes it a place full of mystery.
Reaching Mauritius by Air

Local Buses, Taxi, and even scooters are all fun to move around when in Mauritius. Hiring a local taxi can be the most comfortable part of traveling in Mauritius. Most taxi drivers can speak English or French, and they know all the places that you will like to visit.
However taking a bus ride will be lots of fun, as you will see Mauritius in the way the locals see it. Chatting to the locals and fishermen can be funny and a very learning experience. But best always to carry your passport.
