The specialty of its name is due to its history, the citrus fruits which are planted here were imported from other countries and they are now rare species in the world. Pamplemousses district is also known as grand bale / or grand bay.
Places to Visit:
Grand bay's capital is Triolet which has Maheshwarnath temple which is one in its own kind. The place is famous for scuba diving, underwater exploration, water surfing, trekking, hiking, water skiing - as this district has lot of beaches, mountain ranges and landscapes.
This district also has famous botanical garden which is one of the oldest tourist attractions. Pamplemousses garden is also known as jardin demon plaisir, botanical royal garden. This garden is famous for its rare species of plants like palm tree, Queen Victoria. Java deers and gazebos are also seen here. Gecko, a kind of lizard which is found on the trees, is seen all over the Mauritius. This garden is also known as Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. This name comes as Ramgoolam took care of the garden and he had great love for nature.
